Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information We BillShare collects, how we use it, and your rights over it. We BillShare is operated from the Republic of the Philippines and is available internationally. We comply with the Philippines' Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the European Economic Area, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) for California residents, and applicable privacy laws in every other country where the App is used.
1 Information We Collect
- Account information — your name, email address, and password (handled securely by Firebase Authentication — we never see your raw password). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider instead.
- Household data — household names, emoji and colour choices, invite codes, and membership records.
- Bill and contribution data — bill titles, providers, amounts, due dates, categories, payment status, and any notes you or your household members enter.
- Payment details you choose to save — your e-wallet or bank provider, account name, account number, and payment QR image. These are optional, and you decide whether to add them.
- Images you upload — receipt and payment-QR photos are uploaded to Firebase Storage so your household members can see them on their own devices. They are not public — only signed-in users can read them, and only you can replace or delete your own.
- Device information — a push-notification token, if you enable notifications, so we can send you due-date reminders.
- Subscription status — whether you hold a BillShare Plus subscription, and an app-specific identifier tying that purchase to your account. We never receive your payment card details — Apple handles the payment and does not share them with us.
2 How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate the App: to show you and your household members bills and contributions, to send optional due-date and payment reminders, and to keep your account secure. We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it with data brokers, and we do not use it for advertising or tracking across other apps or websites.
EU / EEA Lawful Basis for Processing
- Contract performance — for your account, household membership, and bill and contribution records.
- Legitimate interest — for security, fraud prevention, and service reliability.
- Consent — for push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time in your device's Settings.
3 Scanning a Bill
If you scan or upload a bill, the text is first read on your device. That extracted text — not the image — is then sent to Google's Gemini model through the Firebase AI Logic service, which returns the amount, biller, and due date so we can fill in the form for you.
The text is processed to answer that single request and is not used to train the model. Scanning is optional; you can type every field by hand instead.
4 Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the App. We do not use advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking analytics, or data brokers.
5 Where Your Information Is Stored
Your data is stored using Google Firebase on Google's cloud infrastructure, which may include servers outside your country. For users in the European Economic Area, cross-border data transfers from the EEA are governed by Google's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) under EU law. Google's data processing practices comply with GDPR and equivalent frameworks.
6 Who Can See Your Information
Members of a household you join can see the bills, contributions, notes, receipt images, and activity within that household, along with your name and avatar colour, and any payment details you chose to save.
We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
7 Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, and request deletion of your personal information. You can update your name, avatar, and payment details in the App's Me tab, and you can permanently delete your account and its data yourself under Me → Edit Profile → Delete Account.
EU / EEA Additional Rights under GDPR
- Data portability — request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Restriction of processing — ask us to pause processing of your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Lodge a complaint — you have the right to contact your local data protection supervisory authority.
California Additional Rights under CCPA
- Right to know — request details about the personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to delete — request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to opt out of sale — we do not sell your personal information.
- Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at webillshare@gmail.com.
8 Data Retention
We retain your account and household data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal or security purposes.
Bills and contributions you added remain visible to your household as part of its shared history.
9 Children's Privacy
We BillShare is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
10 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the App with an updated "Last updated" date above.
